Teacher’s Guide to Anglia Speaking Tests 2010 If your students are taking part in the Anglia Speaking Tests, they will need extra guidance to make sure that they are well-prepared. Your role as a teacher will be very important to them, so you should know how it works. Decide the level The vast majority of students will take the speaking test at the same level as they are taking the reading/writing and listening tests. The fact that speaking is an active skill without time to reflect and correct, is taken into account in setting the marking criteria and task types for each level. Exceptionally, usually because they have an native-speaker relative, a student may take the speaking test at a higher level than the reading/writing test. The tests are separately certificated so this is possible, for whatever reason. If you think you have a student who could do this, the best way to judge is to look at the different tasks the students must do at each level. You can find all this information on our website on page Practice Tests. Prepare the test For the levels up to Preliminary, the students need only prepare if they want to do something extra at the test, like perform a rhyme, chant, poem or song. From Elementary onwards, students are expected to prepare specific parts of the test. Please advise them to have a look at the preparation topics on our website. Most students like to prepare, so perhaps you can help and support them, possibly organise mock examinations, so that they know what to expect. Conducting the examinations For the levels up to Advanced, you can conduct the examinations with your own students. They will be moderated from the recordings at Anglia Examinations in Chichester. At AcCEPT Proficiency and above, an external examiner must conduct them. All materials like pictures, exam forms and instructions, will be sent at least one week before the exam date. Please make sure that you have gone through all materials and assessment criteria before you conduct the examinations. You will find more detailed instructions per level in the Speaking Test Pack. Recording the examinations on a laptop or computer From January 2007, it has been possible to record the examination sessions on laptop and computer. You need a special programme, available at the Anglia Centre; please email us at

in time, so that we can have it installed for you at least one week before the tests take place. After recording, put your files on a disc and send it, along with the assessment sheets, back to the Anglia Centre. If you are not able to do this, Anglia Examinations will accept all methods of recording as long as they are clear: cassettes, CDs or mini-cassettes for a dictaphone. Please do not forget to put both names and numbers on all assessment sheets and recorded files. Results and certificates will be sent within 6 weeks. Good luck !!!
